CLEVER Cities has been making waves in Milan, with its innovative approach to urban sustainability. Building upon the success of the inaugural training course held in October 2019, Ambiente Italia, responsible for CLEVER Action Lab for green roofs and walls, recently organized another comprehensive training course in Milan. This time the course aimed to showcase the impressive projects implemented as part of CLEVER Milano, focusing on different aspects, including planning, implementation, and further development in the policy arena. The training course was designed primarily for Green Roofs and Walls enthusiasts (architects, urban designers, agronomists, engineers, and technical experts):

First Lesson - Urban Regulations, Policies, and Opportunities in Milan
The course kicked off with an in-depth exploration of urban regulations, policies, and the numerous opportunities that exist within Milan. Participants were provided with a comprehensive overview of the city's approach to sustainable development, highlighting how it aligns with the objectives of CLEVER Cities. Understanding the local context is crucial for successful implementation, and this lesson set the stage for the subsequent topics.

Second Lesson - Co-Creation of Green Roofs and Walls,  the CLEVER Cities approach
In the second lesson, participants were introduced to the co-creation approach developed by CLEVER Cities. The course instructors explained this methodology in detail, emphasizing how it was tested in four notable projects within Milan. Attendees gained insights into the collaborative processes that enabled the successful integration of green roofs and walls into the urban fabric as well as the main barriers that sometimes challenged the whole process. By showcasing these real-life examples, the course effectively demonstrated the impact of CLEVER Cities on Milan's green landscape.

Third Lesson - The Outdoor Living Wall of ‘Municipal Public Transport Company of Milan’
One of the CLEVER Milan projects took center stage during the third lesson. The course delved into the intricacies of the outdoor living wall, focusing on its construction, agronomic considerations, plant engineering, and logistical aspects. This detailed presentation into a specific project provided participants with a practical understanding of the challenges faced and the solutions devised. From the initial planning stages to the maintenance requirements, the course provided valuable insights into the complexities of technological greenery.

By covering key topics such as urban regulations, the co-creation approach, and specific project details, the course equipped attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the sustainable transformation taking place in Milan. As CLEVER Cities continues to make strides in urban sustainability, the training course played a pivotal role in disseminating knowledge and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, ultimately contributing to a greener and more resilient Milan.
