The second edition of the Milan Green Week, an event promoted by the Municipality of Milan and dedicated to greening the city, was held from 26 to 29 September 2019. CLEVER Cities Milan participated in the Green Week with a series of events including a day dedicated to nature-based solutions in Milan and a day of guided tours to discover the green roofs and walls of Milan.

The event "Nature-based solutions in the city: in courtyards, on roofs and on walls" was held in the Sala delle Colonne, at the Fabbrica del Vapore on September 27th and was an opportunity to discover the work be carried out in Milan in support of nature-based solutions. Opened by Pierfrancesco Maran, Councillor for Urban Planning, Green growth and Agriculture, and by Simona Collarini, Director of General Planning of the City of Milan, the event offered a great opportunity to present case studies and solutions, as well as the benefits and costs associated with roofs and green walls (presented by Maria Berrini and Lorenzo Bono of Ambiente Italia). The event saw also the presentation of the wider work being undertaken by the CLEVER Cities Project in other European cities, with the presentation of the experiences of London, and Hamburg, as well as Milan, by Emilia Barone of the Municipality of Milan, Martin Krekeler, coordinator of the CLEVER Cities project, Nicola Murphy-Evans, London and Jan Pastoors, Hamburg.

In the second part of the event a Round Table moderated by Gabriele Rabaiotti, Councillor for Social and Housing Policies, was set up to discuss how to multiply these positive actions, which saw the participation of the Professional Orders of the Architects, Agronomists, Engineers, as well as other organisations such as AIAPP, ANACI, Assofloro, ANCE-Assimpredil. The event closed with an overview of green roofs and walls in Milan, and the presentation of concrete examples and projects.

On September 28th, an itinerary of guided tours was held to discover green roofs and walls in Milan, organized by ROOFmatters and Ambiente Italia, with the aim of showing the quality and benefits of some of the achievements reached by green walls and roofs, both horizontal and vertical, integrated in buildings across Milan. For each of the projects visited, a presentation was held, as well as a discussion with the designer, the company involved, the client or the organization managing the green wall or roof. It was an opportunity to begin to understand the opportunities, the challenges, as well as the approaches that characterize the different projects, their achievements and the advantages of these innovative solutions. A more detailed description of the tour is available  here (in Italian).
