An article published by MDPI is now online on the experiences of the CLEVER Cities project on collaborative governance approaches aimed at urban transformation.

As part of the CLEVER Cities project, the cities of Milan, London and Hamburg are setting up nine Urban Living Labs (ULL) to implement Nature-Based Solutions that address urban challenges at the neighbourhood level.

The article considers the ways in which co-creation processes and pathways can bring innovation to local governance structures and achieve transformative change.

Through a comparative analysis of case studies, the research carried out aims to identify integrated and collaborative governance frameworks that are complex and adaptive, as well reflecting the actual changes in governance in cities. In this context, ULLs are intended not just as a vehicle for place-based urban regeneration for the place where it is implemented but also as a starting point for collaborative governance. The article then addresses how co-creation pathways can lead to innovation in current local governance structures and achieve transformative change.

The full article is available in an open access version on the MDPI website.
