Greening Cities, Shaping Cities

12 - 13 Oct 20

Milan, Italy - Politecnico di Milano, Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, DASTU

The topic of Nature-based Solutions (NBS) has been lately cultivating interests from different scholars, urban planning practitioners and policymakers. This symposium aims to bridge the gap between science and practice of getting NBS implemented in place-based contexts as a novel greening strategy and eventually, an effective tool to adapt and mitigate climate change pressures.

Key questions to be addressed at the symposium emerge from the CLEVER Cities ongoing research project, investigating, in particular, the role of NBS in addressing urban regeneration challenges and promoting social inclusion in cities across Europe, South America and China.

The symposium is expected to bring a coherent and well-grounded (both empirically and conceptually) collection of scientific articles that cover fresh and novel insights into urban debates on design and planning theory, policy and practice around NBS. The current themes of the symposium cover the whole procedural gaps of greening cities strategies that are currently fore fronting the re-shaping of urban fabrics nowadays.

A Call for Papers is open and presents an opportunity for attendees to showcase recent research findings from fieldwork and real case-study experiences of NBS implementation. Attending the symposium is free of charge and publications costs will be waived for selected papers upon a double-blind peer-review process. In continuity with the previous edition of the symposium (Sharing Cities, Shaping Cities) the opportunity will be given to authors to benefit from a free submission to a ‘special issue’ to be published in an international scientific journal.

More details on how to submit a paper can be found here.
